A Quick Bite Of Dracula World Order

I get a lot of comics sent to me by e-mail. A lot. I'd like to read them all. I don't. But I try.

I'm glad I tried this one. Been sitting in my inbox for a week and that's a crime.

It's called Dracula World Order, written by Ian Brill, with a bunch of artists whose names you may recognise. Tonci Zonjic, Rahsan Ekedal, Declan Shalvey and Gabrial Hardman each taking an issue each.

And what we have is a deadly serious drama about the son of Dracula starting a revolution against his father, and gathering a number of troops for his small army.

It feels like a Mignola piece, with small considered moments than give the main action scenes added gravitas, creating a world that the story can bounce around. And playing off our own worldy concerns about power and wealth by turning this into not only a political revolution, but an economic one as well.

Here's page one. Note the use of black, the small inset panels, the showing, the teasing, the glimpses given. It's that kind of comic.

And despite the ridiculousness of it all, it takes itself deadly serious. Since Buffy, I've usually only been able to take this kind of story with a modicum of tongue in cheek. Here, if it's there at all, it's well hidden, infused into the ridiculous situation taken for reelz. Post-postmodern horror comics?

It's being self published by Ian Brill, self distributed and self-promoted. Thankfully he has the likes of Sam Humphries and Chip Mosher on his side to lend a hand…
