Aaron Haaland, of A Comic Shop in Orlando, Florida, writes:

Hey Fandom, It's me Aaron, doing A Comic Show where I talk about this week's new comics now (a day early). This week I have my Nerdy Show pal Cap with me because we both had a chase to read all these books. We had fun filming together. I hope you guys don't mind that it went a little long.

First up Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy became a buddy chick book for an issue, and we loved it. The pairing of Gamora and Angela drawn by Kevin Maguire worked. Superior Foes of Spider-man continued the girl power with a single issue origin story of the new Beetle. And New Avengers where we saw an alternate Earth sync up to the beginning of our 616 Earth's New Avengers with catastrophic consequences.

Geoff has left Aquaman, but Jeff Parker is here! Up, up and under pressure. This first issue of his run was good, and I liked all that was set up. We'll miss Geoff on solo Aquaman adventures and feel bad for the poor souls who follow him. Having said that you will believe a fish can fly! JL Dark had the CSA Aquaman, Sea King. Or at least his corpse used in very clever ways. Red Lanterns continued to be the most improved book in the New 52, its got Charles Soule and Guy Gardner and soon with have a Red Daughter of Krypton! Damian Son of the Bat #3 was fun. It has a few twists and kinks that I don't want to spoil, but I enjoyed it. Oh, and Scott Snyder and Jim Lee's Superman Unchained #5 did it for me. This is where it all came together, the themes and subplots all crashed like waves on the shore. These are themes I want a Superman book to take on and a applaud Snyder for doing it! The flash forward pages were haunting…

We also got some great franchise and creator owned books this week. The Star Wars #0 is worth the price because this is actually something decades the making, so a "making of" carries more weight. Legenderry is a Steampunk adventure feature most of the licensed characters Dynamite publishes, but before judging it as a pandering indulgent mess- Bill Willingham! The creator of Fables is the one weaving Zorro, Red Sonja, Vampirella, Green Hornet, Phantom and more into a shared universe or brass, goggles, and tiny hats. And he's just the man to do it! Twilight Zone by JMS is Cap's favorite book of the week and I certainly dug it too. We talked about a few more books, including the Jurassic Park Jesus mash-up Escape From Jesus Island, but you'll have to watch the video for all that. Thanks you watching and have a Happy New Year!
