A Bleeding Cool Endorsement From Tom Brevoort?

Replying to concerns about the cancellation of Marvel licensing and reduction in prominence of the Fantastic Four and the X-Men at Marvel, Tom Brevoort stated,

If you start your investigation with the result that you're looking for, you can always make the facts fit the conclusion. That's not the scientific method, that's—well, that's FOX News. And especially when there are interested parties who profit whenever you click-bait into reading headlines about how all of your favorite characters are in danger of being destroyed, maybe consider the source of all of this craziness?

He's targeting Bleeding Cool a bit here, but I would like folk to know, if you need to, that the investigation began with Marvel staffers contacting Bleeding Cool and telling us that the cancellation of Fantastic Four had come down from on high, and that it was due to conflict with Fox Studio over payments, movie rights and licensing rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four books. And that Marvel CEO Isaac Pelmutter didn't even want to see the Fantastic Four when he walked through the office.

So all sorts of rights were pulled by Marvel licensing and the monthly comic was cancelled. The characters could still appear, just not in their own comic – and certainly not destroyed. This wouldn't be demanded of the X-Men characters as they sold a lot more, but their prominence was to be reduced.

Since that initial report, we have seen licensors tell us that they can't use FF imagery, we have seen Diamond Select say that they may not create FF toys, and poster companies not make FF posters and comic creators tell me directly that they have been told by editorial not to tell certain X-Men stories, citing issues with Fox.

Now, this is all detail that fits and fleshes out the original piece – but that article came directly from multiple Marvel staffers, and has remained consistent since, with other reporters external to Bleeding Cool backing up that central claim.

If we get any news that counters that narrative, we will be happy to report that as well.

Seriously, if there wasn't a website stirring all of this stuff up, can you honestly say that you would even have noticed anything here?

Very possibly true, Tom. But that sounds like quite the accreditation – you wouldn't have known anything was going on unless Bleeding Cool told you.

I think I'll take that. Thank you.
