Raiders Running Back Marshawn Lynch Suspended For Grabbing Referee

Marshawn Lynch, running back for the Oakland Raiders, has been suspended one game without pay after he made contact with an official in the second quarter of the Thursday night match up against the Kansas City Chiefs. On a poorly designed run play, Quarterback Derrick Carr was hit late by Cornerback Marcus Peters and received a flag. The Raiders offensive line to offense to the hit and a lot of pushing and shoving started. Lynch ran over and joined in… and ended up pushing a ref. You can see the whole thing in the video below.

To no surprise, Lynch has already filed an appeal for the suspension. If it stands, Lynch will lose $79,411… which is his one game paycheck.

There is a bit more to the story. First off, Lynch was not on the field for the play. He ran in off the sideline which, along with touching a rough, are two of the biggest no-nos in the game. Another interesting thing is why Lynch ran in. Since Lynch doesn't usually talk to the press, the story came from Raiders left tackle Donald Penn… he says Lynch, who is a close friend of Marcus Peters, actually ran onto the field to protect Peter from the Raiders. Yes, the Raiders running back raced to stop his own offensive line from going after the other team's corner.

Lynch first bumped into line judge Julian Mapp, but then grabbed him by the jersey and pushed him aside. Lynch was ejected from the game for his action. The Raiders beat the Chiefs 31-30.
