First Details of Sivana, the Villain from Shazam!, Have Been Revealed

Warner Bros. surprised a few people by releasing the trailer for Shazam! following the reveal during their San Diego Comic-Con panel. While the trailer was well received overall, fans did notice that we only got one brief shot of Mark Strong as the villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana. Director David F. Sandberg talked to Entertainment Weekly but remained cryptic and didn't give away too many details.

"Mark Strong loves being a bad guy," director David Sandberg enthused, but still had to keep things pretty cryptic: "And it's not just him, really, it's … something else … that lent him his powers … he can do some things that Shazam can't. The danger in some films is the bad guy has the same powers as the good guy. [Sivana] has an extra thing, extra dynamic, that takes care of that…."

We've only seen the first teaser trailer, so we'll be seeing more of Strong as Sivana before the movie comes out this April. As for now, this first trailer does a great job of showing us what kind of tone this movie is going to have and establishing the status quo of our hero.

Summary: A boy is given the ability to become an adult superhero in times of need with a single magic word.

Shazam!, directed by David F. Sandberg, stars Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Asher Angel, and will be written by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. It will be released on April 5th, 2019.
