'The Undoing': Edgar Ramirez, Lily Rabe Join HBO Limited Series from David E. Kelley

"The House of Ryan Murphy" continues to widen its sphere of influence towards every corner of the pop culture universe… which we will be the first ones to admit was a pretty broad, dramatic way of saying that Edgar Ramirez (American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace) and Lily Rabe (American Horror Story) are joining the cast of HBO's The Undoing. The cable network's six-episode limited series already boasts an impressive cast, including Nicole Kidman, Hugh Grant, and Donald Sutherland. David E. Kelley writes and serves as showrunner, with Susanne Bier set to direct all episodes, based on an adaptation of Jean Hanff Korelitz's book You Should Have Known.

The Undoing centers on Grace Sachs (Kidman), who is living the only life she ever wanted for herself: a successful therapist with a devoted husband (Grant) and young son (Noah Jupe) who attends an elite private school in New York City. Overnight a chasm opens in her life: a violent death, a missing husband, and, in the place of a man Grace thought she knew, only a chain of terrible revelations. Left behind in the wake of a spreading and very public disaster, and horrified by the ways in which she has failed to heed her own advice, Grace must dismantle one life and create another for her child and herself.

Ramirez will play Detective Joe Mendoza and Rabe will portray Sylvia Steinetz.

First published in March 2014 by Grand Central Publishing, here's a look at Korelitz's You Should Have Known:

Grace Reinhart Sachs is living the only life she ever wanted for herself, devoted to her husband, a pediatric oncologist at a major cancer hospital, their young son Henry, and the patients she sees in her therapy practice. Grace is also the author of You Should Have Known, a book in which she castigates women for not valuing their intuition and calls upon them to examine their first impressions of men for signs of serious trouble later on. But weeks before the book is published, a chasm opens in her own life: a violent death, a missing husband, and, in the place of a man Grace thought she knew, only a chain of terrible revelations. Left behind in the wake of a spreading and very public disast and horrified by the ways in which she has failed to heed her own advice, Grace must dismantle one life and create another for her child and herself.

HBO's The Undoing is executive produced by Kelley through David E. Kelley Prods., Kidman and Per Saari through Blossom Films, Bruna Papandrea via Made Up Stories, and Bier.
