"Conan Chop Chop" is Exactly What You'd Expect

Despite getting its start as an April Fool's joke, Conan Chop Chop was one of the most entertaining games available for demo at E3 this year. The game is a rogue-lite hack and slash with a brutal difficulty curve and multi-player co-op. The simplistic level designs, Cyanide & Happiness style characters, and spastic animations do little to hide the fact that, in this game, you can and will die to the early-level slime enemies.

In fact, while playing co-op with another member of the press, we both needed to resort to dev cheats like "max health" in order to even do any proper exploring.

However, the clear highlight of the game was the revive system. While playing co-op, your buddy can help revive you if you happen to die to one of the many enemies that make Conan Chop Chop their home. The fun bit, though, is that reviving your buddy requires that you button-mash the revive button. The more you button-mash, the more heath your buddy revives with. However, continuous deaths mean that the button-mashing threshold gets exponentially higher.

Like most rogue-lites, the game is more of a n experience than it is a narrative tale, but that's the point. You don't pick up a game called Conan Chop Chop expecting more than a wildly entertaining but brutal experience. And that is exactly what the game delivers.

Conan Chop Chop will release on September 3, 2019.
