Now Every Retailer Gets a Joker: Year of the Villain #1 Retailer Gift Variant Edition – But is it Enough?

Before New York Comic Con, I became aware of a slight kerfuffle on the private Comic Book Retailer/DC Comics Facebook group, and it was all over the Joker: Year of the Villain #1 Retailer Gift Variant Edition, with a very nice Brian Bolland variant cover.

Bleeding Cool already reported on the free copies of which, that will sent to retailers who a) received the Supergirl #33 and Superman #14 that DC Comics had pulped over some disputed racial portrayals of certain of the Legion characters, b) who pulled them and pulped them as requested, rather than flip them on eBay for ten times cover price and c) signed an affidavit to that effect.

And apparently DC Comics spent quite a lot of effort identifying those who had sold their copies on eBay.

It was pointed out to DC Comics representatives that thus was punitive behaviour regarding retailers who never received copies at all. They didn't make it to certain distribution points and som retailers received their order with said comics ripped from the packaging, something that had never happened before on ay similar post-distribution pulping decisions.

The response from DC Comics representatives was rather tart, a kind of 'like it or lump it', but when a number of retailers decided that they would lump it, another DC Comics representative smoothed things over, apologised and said that everyone was going to get a Joker: Year of the Villain #1 Retailer Gift Variant Edition.

You get a Joker: Year of the Villain #1 Retailer Gift Variant Edition, you get a Joker: Year of the Villain #1 Retailer Gift Variant Edition, everyone gets a Joker: Year of the Villain #1 Retailer Gift Variant Edition.

And now retailers who did not receive copies of Superman #14 and Supergirl #33 will each receive one copy of The Joker: Year of the Villain #1 Retailer Gift Variant Edition.

However only the one. Those who submitted an affidavit are still getting quantities to match their orders on Superman #14.

Copies are to arrive on October 30th. Whether you like it or lump it.
