Comic Book Folk React To… Waking Up to an Elected Boris Johnson, Prime Minister

That was the General Election that was. Boris Johnson has been returned as Prime Minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Conservative government has their biggest majority since Margaret Thatcher. For those on the left looking for a crumb of comfort it is that, with such a majority, Johnson won't need to pander to the hard Brexit libertarian ERG wing of the Conservative Party and can basically – do whatever he actually wants. Generally he is on the wet side of the Conservative Party, and his politics, even though they come and go with the tide would, in the US, be considered those of the Democrat Party. Look, I said it was a small crumb. The Yorkshire town my dad grew up in, Wakefield, went Tory for the first time since 1931, though the town I grew up in, Pontefract, stayed Labour. My own constituency, Kingston North/Richmond Park was one of the few which kicked out a Tory incumbent, Zac Goldsmith and returned former MP for the constituency, Sarah Olney, while neighbouring Putney did similar. London, who had had two terms of Boris Johnson as mayor, mostly stayed Labour, but the rest of England is a sea of blue. So… Kier Starmer or Jess Phillips? Anyone?

Here's what some other comic book and comic-adjacent folk have been saying this morning on social media – and what they said last night.

And after looking long and hard… I did find an admitted, if reluctant, Conservative voter.

And in a parallel universe…
