The Umbrella Academy was a hit last year as the Dark Horse Comics series became a live-action show on Netflix. After a long wait, we finally got to see the first wave of The Umbrella Academy Funko Pop figures hit stores. It seems like its been quite some time since the show has ended before we were able to get our hands on these. The most surprising thing is that this took so long to come out to the collectors. You would think they would want to expedite collectibles like this during the time the show is popular. We can't control that though, and I am just glad we have collectibles for this kick-ass show in the first place. I can't wait to dive in.
If you don't know the story it is about seven kids bought by a billionaire who have superpowers and become a fighting force. The Netflix show takes place years after and that's when the drama ensues. There were 13 Funko Pops in total this release with two Chases and one of them has an exclusive glow-in-the-dark version going to Hot Topic. The packaging for each Umbrella Academy character is the same as every other Funko Pop box, but the design on the side is pretty unique. Not only is there a corresponding number located on the side, but there is a quote on the back flat for each character.
In Part 3 we will cover Pogo, Cha- Cha, and Hazel. We have already covered Number 7 a.ka. Vanya who also got a special Funko Pop Chase variant and you can find that review located here.
The last three characters were going to be looking over are the other and non-numbered characters from The Umbrella Academy. These characters do share the same style of box technique as the rest and do you also have symbols on the left side of the box. First up we have the chimpanzee butler Pogo. His box is the same as the rest and is pretty simple but he does have a red umbrella on the left side and the quote, "One grows used to things, even if, sometimes one shouldn't." written on the back.
This is an elegant and unique design and it definitely gives me some Planet of the Apes feel here. They definitely use different colors and textures for the skin and the hair. I do like how they have a little miniature glasses sitting on his nose it is a cool effect. His suit jacket is nicely designed and you can even see ripples of his shirt with hair coming up from his wrists. Funko does not really let up lately especially when it comes to high-end television shows like The Umbrella Academy.
For the last two characters will be going over from The Umbrella Academy 3-part review is Cha-Cha and Hazel, your favorite two time-traveling assassins. Cha-Cha is first sporting her pink dog mask which is also the same symbol on the side of her box.
This character is pretty cool and I love the colors they picked to use for the mask. I'm surprised we didn't get Chase variants of them being unmasked. We did already get two Chases to come out this wave so we might see them in the next. Cha-Cha is sporting a blue suit with a gun in hand, she is she's very simplistic, I think it's the colors that really draw your eyes to it.
Next, we have Hazel who is supporting a colored bear mask. The design of this mask is shown on the left side of the box and the quote, "It's only been one lousy day" being written on the back lip.
The design of this character from the colors to the design of the mask are very unique. The smile that the character has is quite creepy but you just can't stop looking at it. Hazel is carrying a shotgun and he is ready to take on the Umbrella Academy in their own home. He is also sporting a blue suit that has a pretty simple design. Cha-Cha and Hazel are the perfect duo together and are a must-have for any fan of The Umbrella Academy.
The Umbrella Academy Funko Pop's are very well-designed and perfectly detailed. It's the little things that really count and Funko gets it right in this set of figures. Funko is currently the only company to give us collectibles for the Umbrella Academy and that is what makes Funko so successful. They give fans collectibles that are not offered by anyone else from some of their favorite shows, movies, and artists. These figures are cheap and pretty simple and are easily a must-have for any fan of the Netflix show. All of them are still available online and you can find them located here and you can even test your luck to get one of the 1:6 Chase figures. Or you can test your luck at any retailer that sells a wide variety of Funko Pops like Hot Topic or GameStop. I am sure we will see more of the Umbrella Academy Funko Pops come out once a Season two hits. It wouldn't be a bad idea to lock yours down before it's too late and they all go up in value when the second season hits Netflix in 2020.
