Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's Cinema Purgatorio, In Comic Stores For April

I was just discussing this comic in the pub last night. See if I can remember what I said. So Cinema Purgatorio by Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill is about a woman in purgatory, condemned to visit a very dodgy cinema, which shows movies that are familiar, but are analytical of movie form, culture and history. We get the history of the Warner Brothers as if they were the Marz Brothers. We see tales of early corruption, murder and Fatty Arbuckle, through the Keystone Kops. And every version of the OK Corrall told at once. All the way through we also get to see hints of the woman's life and why this is her own particular form of torture – and why she has ended up here.

Originally the lead story in an anthology curated by Alan Moore, we mentioned there was an Amazon listing for the title and now we know what's in it.

CINEMA PURGATORIO COLLECTION (MR)
(W) Alan Moore (A/CA) Kevin O'Neill
Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill invite you take a trip through the dark recesses of cinema, in their first major project together since League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The power of movies, the people behind it, the damage it has done, and the story of one woman forced to bare her soul, is all unspooled one short film at a time. Every chapter is radically different yet all weaved into one tapestry of breathtaking complexity as only Alan Moore could do. This collection has all eighteen chapters for the complete story.
In Shops: Apr 29, 2020
SRP: $19.99

Cinema Purgatorio is published by Bleeding Cool's own publisher, Avatar Press, but it is a brilliant, accessible, thrilling provocative tale – and also includes lots of film theory and history as well. Just in comic book form…
