"Altered Carbon" Season 2: Takeshi Kovacs? Meet… "Evergreen" [OFFICIAL TRAILER]

Netflix's Altered Carbon has a major thing going for it in its DNA that gives it an advantage over other shows: the concept of "sleeves". I mean, it really does give the studio and the streamer a major negotiation weapon in their back pocket: asked too much during contract dealings, you just change the "sleeve".

Cynical stuff aside, it also blows open the creative doors on the series – giving it the chance to explore an overarching storyline from various perspectives without losing the main protagonist's focus. That's why Joel Kinnaman can spend the first season playing Takeshi Kovacs – only for Anthony Mackie (Disney+'s upcoming series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) to grab the "genetic baton" for the season season (those familiar with Richard K. Morgan's novels are also more than familiar with the concept of digitized consciousness transfers to bodies aka "sleeves".

With the series set to return in a little more than two weeks (February 27, to be precise), Netflix has released the official trailer Mackie's season as Takeshi Kovacs' "sleeve" in the following teaser – one that offers a very important and deadly warning.

If you spend too much time chasing your ghosts, you might just end up becoming one yourself…

Altered Carbon season 2 also stars Renée Elise Goldsberry, Simone Missick, Chris Conner, Dina Shihabi, Torben Liebrecht, and James Saito.

Series showrunner Alison Schapker wrote the second season finale, with Laeta Kalogridis penning the season opener. Joining Schapker and Kalogridis as executive producers are Skydance Television's David Ellison and Dana Goldberg, and James Middleton.

Here's what ex-Skydance Television president Mary Ross had to say about having Schapker on board as showrunner and what that means for the second season:

"Alison is an outstanding storyteller and first-class executive producer and showrunner. We are incredibly proud of the work she's done on the second season of Altered Carbon and are beyond thrilled at the opportunity to continue collaborating with her."
