AWA Studios Releases Launch Video Ahead of March Launch of Their Comics [Video]

New publish AWA Studios will be launching their first four comic series on March 18th. The launch titles will be The Resistance, Archangel 8, Red Border and Hotell. It's one of the strongest opening lineups I've seen in years, offering thematically dense stories with strong political and social undertones. It's very reminiscent of the type of content that editor Axel Alonso oversaw during his time at Vertigo Comics at DC.

Today, the publisher released a kind of launch video to preview the launch.

The video features creators J. Michael Straczynski, Michael Moreci, Jason Starr, Will Conrad, John Lees, and Dalibor Talajic, along with AWA's Chief Creative Officer, Axel Alonso, and Editors, Dulce Montoya and Jaime Coyne.

The Resistance by Straczynski and Mike Deodato Jr. is a political superhero saga. Red Border by Jason Starr and Will Conrad is a crime thriller set at the Mexican border. Archangel 8 by Michael Moreci and C.P. Smith is a supernatural action thriller. Hotell by John Lees and Dalibor Talajic is a horror anthology series.

AWA was founded by Marvel alumni Bill Jemas and Axel Alonso, along with Jon Miller, the former CEO of News Corp. The company is fully funded by James Murdoch and Lightspeed Venture Partners. They clearly have the long game in mind. AWA has at least sixteen more titles in the pipeline from creators like Reginald Hudlin, Christa Faust, Frank Cho and Garth Ennis.

We've read the first issues and they're a strong lineup with a lot of potential. AWA are ratcheting up their promotions to get as much hype going as possible. You can expect more previews, reviews and videos in the next few weeks leading up to the launch.

We'll be following AWA's progress with great interest and reviewing the books as they come. It's interesting to see another comic publisher on the scene, especially one that wants to set itself above the rest as much as possible.
