Boston's Mayor Asks Sony To Reconsider Pulling From PAX East

The mayor of Boston is pulling one most last-ditch effort to get Sony to be at PAX East as he asks the company to reconsider pulling from the event. According to WCVB, Mayor Marty Walsh has sent a letter to Kenichiro Yoshida, Sony's President and CEO, asking them to return to the convention next week. Here's a snippet of the letter, as taken from Video Games Chronicle.

"These fears reinforce harmful stereotypes that generations of Asians have worked hard to dismantle," Walsh wrote in his letter. "They trigger our worst impulses: to view entire groups of people with suspicion, to close ourselves off, and to miss out on the opportunities and connections our global city provides. Boston is united in our efforts to dispel these harmful and misguided fears."

The Mayor added: "As a large, international company, you have an opportunity to set a good example. As a leader in technology, you can show that you are motivated by facts, not fear. As a leader in gaming and culture, you can show that you believe in connection, not isolation."

Whether or not it will have any success is up in the air. But if our own experience trying to talk to people from Sony is any indication, we're guessing it will either be met with silence or a simple "we've already made our decision". Considering the convention is less than a week away, the money and manpower required to ship everything to Boston at this point would probably cost more than if they had just kept their original plans for PAX East. So now it becomes a matter of whether they can be convinced and if it's cost-effective enough to do so.
