"Valley Trash": Jason Lee Leads ABC Comedy Pilot

Jason Lee (Mallrats, My Name Is Earl) took one step closer towards coming back to network television with ABC greenlighting comedy pilot Valley Trash. The single-camera Los Angeles private school comedy stars Lee, who will also produce with writer Niki Schwartz-Wright (Speechless) and Nahnatchka Khan (Fresh Off the Boat).

"Valley Trash": What It's All About…

Valley Trash is a family sitcom about the Harmans: scrappy, blue-collar living in the deep Valley who suddenly experiences a major culture clash when their 14-year old daughter Abby gets accepted into a prestigious LA private school. Unfortunately, the family struggle fitting in as the school and their community want nothing to do with them.

Lee plays Cal, a hard-working low-rent lawyer, who always looking for a case and described as a "modern-day Atticus Finch." Cal is southern, charming, and rough around the edges. He is a hard-working family man for his wife Jules, and their two kids, Abby and Benji.

Schwartz-Wright serves as showrunner and executive producer with Khan via her Fierce Baby Productions. Joining the two to executive produce is Jen Carreras, head developer at Fierce Baby, who was a former ABC Studios VP Comedy.

Jason Lee's Other Work

Before Lee's return as Brodie Bruce in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (2019), he took a break from live-action work to focus on his photography and voiceovers. He starred in the live-action Alvin and the Chipmunks film franchise. He made recurring appearances on Raising Hope and Up All Night. The actor also starred in Memphis Beat on TNT and My Name is Earl on NBC.

Schwartz-Wright serves as a co-executive producer for Abby's for NBC. She also produced The Grinder and The Goldbergs. Khan will produce Young Rock for NBC, which inspired by and features wrestler-turned-actor, Dwayne Johnson. She also served as executive producer on Don't Trust the B**** in Apartment 23 and American Dad.
