After Seeing Avengers: Infinity War – What About Avengers 4? (SPOILERS)

There are minor spoilers here regarding Avengers: Infinity War but we're only repeating what is necessary for this discussion, everything else will be couched in innuendo. Yes, every other site has gone full spoiler. But this is for people who have seen the film and are intrigued to know what might come next.

Well, that would be Ant Man And The Wasp and Captain Marvel. As mentioned in the movie, both Ant-Man and Hawkeye are under house arrest during the attack on New York and Wakanda. Odds are that will be lifted for Avengers 4 – and could Hawkeye be in Ant-Man And The Wasp as well? A period Captain Marvel movie will also tee up that character for Avengers 4 too. And explain why she was never called on for the first two Avengers films. Some kind of Kree suspended animation that all it takes is a pager to free her from?

For those who want an idea what might happen after the cliffhanger, buying The Infinity Gauntlet comic book might give you an idea – though the story is very different, it shares a lot of the plot beats and themes. It may see a reversal of fortunes for some, but not all.

The big question of the movie comes down to those who chose to sacrifice a stone to save a person, or vice versa and the price they paid. For many, Gamora and Nebula, Gamora and Quill, Scarlet Witch and Vision, the relationship was clear. But Doctor Strange and Tony Stark? They had only just met and, frankly, had got off the wrong foot. He already said that he would have let Spider-Man and Tony Stark die rather than lose the Time Stone, so why bargain it away for Tony's life?

Well, two things. Firstly, he used the Time Stone to look into the future, through one million, six-hundred and fifty versions of reality to find only one in which they won.

He handed over the stone after an epic fight with Thanos believing he had won fair and square.

He told Tony Stark that it was the only way. Not the only way to save Tony, but the only way in which they save half the universe.

And, for some reason, that involved keeping Tony alive, And handing over the Time Stone. Without the Time Stone, the Mind Stone would have been lost to Thanos. Leaving Thanos with only four Stones and a fully alive universe.

Is that in then? With four stones he is still unstoppable and would scythe through universe far more effectively than before, laying waste to all who cross his path?

But with all six Stones, he accomplished it all at once. And is at peace. But will that somehow be his undoing?

In the comics that comes from a number of sources. Thanos loses the Infinity Gauntlet when he becomes a cosmic god and leaves his earthly form behind…

…allowing Nebula to snatch the gauntlet and take the power for herself.

It involved Adam Warlock being part of the soul gem.

And Warlock being able to take the Gauntlet from Nebula and deny it from Thanos.

But there was that final scene where Thanos saw Gamora. The young Gamora. Where was she? In the Soul Stone perhaps? A soul for a soul stone, remember. Will she be her father's undoing? With him, with his Infinity Gauntlet and defeating Thanos? And you'll need the Time Stone in the Gauntlet to put things right…

There's no indication as to which way the movie will go. But the ending being part of Doctor Strange's ineffable plan and maybe Gamora being in the Soul Stone… that's where I would be looking.
