Another Stephen King Adaptation Headed For Television

grandcentral With CBS' Under the Dome and Syfy's Haven (based on The Colorado Kid) both doing solid ratings, TV execs are mining Stephen King's vast repertoire for more material to adapt in serialized format.

The newest is a potential straight-to-series show for ABC from Haven creators Sam Ernst and Jim Dunn, reports THR. The show will be called Grand Central, but it's based on a short story called The New York Times at Special Bargain Rates, originally published in 2008.

The plot centers around a widow who answers a call from her dead husband. He warns her of two impending tragedies and helps her to avoid death herself. Not exactly a premise that seems like it could be extended for series television described as "a character-driven procedural with a supernatural twist," but that is after all exactly what Ernst and Dunn did for Haven. That show is a supernatural procedural based on a murder mystery novella that had no supernatural elements at all.

So it'll probably be nothing like the original short story, but then again, Under the Dome bares very little resemblance to the original novel despite retaining the same title. King's pretty cool with letting people make major changes to his works when adapting them, for better or worse.
