Ex-Rare Employees Making A New Platformer – Banjo Kazooie Spiritual Successor?

People have been wanting Rare to create a Banjo Kazooie type game for a long time, but for the past half decade or so, they've been stuck making Kinect family games. If you are a fan of the studio's older output like the aforementioned Banjo Kazooie, GoldenEye, Viva Pinata or Perfect Dark, you've been out of luck.

It turns out some of the developers got sick of waiting too. Playtonic Games is a new studio made up entirely of old Rare employees. By their own admission on their website, they have:

the bloke who programmed Donkey Kong Country, the character designer behind Banjo and Kazooie, and the artist who made your console fit to burst with lavish environments across a decade's worth of adventure games.

The developer announced it's also working on a new game currently dubbed Project Ukulele. The studio says that it hopefully will feel like a classic Rare game.

Together, our all-star ensemble is aiming to build its debut game, 'Project Ukulele', into a worthy spiritual successor to those fondly remembered platforming adventures we built in the past.

PLaytonic also teased the characters of the upcoming game with this photo. It's not much to go on, but there are people running this through the Photoshop and finding some feint outlines. Nothing I'm confident enough to post yet, but it looks pretty promising.

It may be time to get excited old Rare fans. I know I am.
