Mark Millar To Launch Version Of CLiNT Created By Women

Mark Millar To Launch Version Of CLiNT Created By Women The second issue is over two weeks away. But Mark Millar is already planning… a sister publication.

Bleeding Cool mentioned this before in passing but now Millar is talking to the Scottish press, telling the Herald On Sunday that he's going to launch a new comics anthology publication aimed at, written and staffed entirely by women.

The female-aimed comic book dies in Britain in the eighties – although at one time a dominant force in the market, with titles such as Jackie, Misty and Bunty still playing strong in people's collective memory. Right now in Britain the comic most read by women is Viz Comic, which has a male creator/audience bias.

Millar says he has chosen a friend – a women's magazine editor – to head up the title. Say, it couldn't be Lady Deadpool writer Mary H.K. Choi could it? Anyway Millar is quoted as saying;

"There is a definite gap in the market for a woman's comic. Little girls used to read Twinkle before moving up to Mandy, Judy or Bunty, but this is no longer the case. That interest has fallen away."

"There's nothing out there like CLiNT for women and this is a great time to be meeting that demand. If all goes to plan, I hope to have the magazine ready to launch in a year."

"It will have a definite Twilight-style supernatural theme. That's the difference between male and female tastes: men are interested in superheroes while women look to the supernatural."

"Every man remembers a Superman costume from his childhood that didn't fit, while girls like horoscopes – though, obviously, that's a sweeping generalisation."

I wonder if it will have a Ten Hot Dads feature?

Weirdly, aside from the gender of the creators, Turf feels like it might have been more of a fit for this new magazine…
