New Trailer For High School – Could This Be The Ultimate Stoner Movie?

High School's title may seem a little unimaginative at first, but that's only until you realise that it's a pun. For me, that point was about midway through the new trailer, which was released via iTunes today.

The film is the feature debut of director John Stalberg, who also co-wrote the script with Erik Linthorst and Stephen Susco. We've certainly been kept waiting a long time to see it; it was originally premiered at Sundance in 2010, and will finally be getting a semi-wide US release later this year.

The plot is fairly simple and engineered towards what looks to be an extremely memorable climax. Henry Burke (Matt Bush) is a straight-A student, soon-to-be valedictorian, and is headed for a tidy placement at MIT. His stoner friend Breaux (Sean Marquette) convinces him to try smoking weed for the first time in his life, and the next day his high school principal (Michael Chiklis), pressured by years of trying and failing to keep his students sober – implements a school-wide drugs test with the threat of expulsion for any student caught with recreational drugs in their system.

Henry and Breaux concoct a plan … a plan of concoction. Knowing that Henry will fail the test and ruin his plans, they decide the only solution is to bake hash brownies filled with high-powered ganja stolen from a brain-fried drug dealer called Psycho Ed (Adrien Brody), sell them at the school bake sale, and let Henry's failed test pale in significance against the sight of an entire high school – teachers included – sailing away in the leafy green boat.

Stoner movies are nothing new, and their varying degrees of quality is testament to the fact that watching other people pretending to be high is just not intrinsically funny. Based on this trailer, however, High School might just be the stoner movie to top them all.

Watch the trailer online here, until we can find an embeddable version.

Drugs are bad, m'kay?
