PUBG's Assault Rifles are Getting Nerfed and Level 3 Helmets are Seeing a Big Change

PUBG Corp. has announced that it bringing some big changes to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds in the coming weeks centred around assault rifles and level 3 helmets.

PUBG

PUBG's tier list of weapons feels fairly well defined right now. While players will have various opinions on certain weapons and their viability over others, not many would disagree that in order to have the best chance at a coveted chicken dinner, you should have an assault rifle. As to which one, comes down to a lot of factors like attachments and personal preference, but you will definitely want one by your side pretty early.

Well, PUBG Corp. seemingly wants to change, or at least mitigate that. In a post on Steam, PUBG Corp. said they are looking at major balance changes to the game to diversify weapon viability. In particular, this will focus on bringing down Assualt Rifles a couple pegs. While exact numbers on the changes haven't been released, the developer did say:

According to our research, only a few specific types of weapons (ARs) are used in most situations. We believe the choice about which gun to use should be based on personal preference and its effectiveness in any given situation, rather than simply "which gun is strongest." Our goal is to make it so no one gun will feel objectively better than the others.

There is another important change coming too. The developer has said it plans to curb the power of level 3 helmets but taking them out of the current normal drop rotation. At the moment you can find them anywhere, albeit rarely. Going forward, they will only be able to found in crates, meaning you will likely have to fight for the item.

These are big moves and if new weapon balance is at all drastic, it will be game-changing. Assualt Rifles are the staple of PUBG right now, and if other deviations like SMGs, Shotguns, hell, even crossbows become more viable, it will feel like a different game. Here's hoping when these changes go live, they spice up the current play as honestly, the game could use it.
