Sunday Runaround – Tintin, Tibet And Traffic

FoxWatch: In the light of the new Tintin movie, Fox News runs a delightful tourist guide to Brussels and Belgium, including the country's rich comic book history. Some of the website commenters are less sure.

The only good thing to come out of Belgium was George Patton, leaving behind thousands of dead Nazis. Otherwise, the world has no use for it,

Tintin ? Never heard of Tintin. Must be an elitist Euro. thing. Speilberg being a douche,i still won't know Tintin.
TrafficWatch: Ashville's traffic issues are causing problems for one store.

"I know eventually it's just going to be a big mess to get on this road because of the construction. But it already is now because it's always so backed up," said Robinson, who has owned Columbus Book Exchange since 1980, the last 12 years at its location in Patton Plaza on West Hamilton Park Drive, which connects to Whittlesey, the pipeline for many of his loyal customers. "When they're through, I'll be the happiest person in the world. I've seen the plans and if it comes off the way they're planning it to come off, it will be a great thing."

TibetWatch: The New York Rubin Museum is launching an exhibition devoted to comics and Tibet.

The exhibition also contains some biographical comics; one particular one is about a Tibetan saint called Milarepa. Milarepa, for Tibetans, is known as a very magical person, who can do things normal people can't do; this is depicted in the two comics we are showing in the exhibition. In the show, we juxtapose traditional Tibetan paintings of Milarepa … with examples of how Dutch comic art has depicted the same scenes, so you can compare the Tibetan way — the traditional way of depicting the saint's life — and with the ways Dutch comic art has depicted the saint.

HealthWatch: A comic book promoting Health Care Reform had its own health issues.

Schreiber, when Gruber approached him last summer, had just moved back to his parents' home in Ashland, after a stint of living his dream as a full-time artist in Brooklyn.

The closely knit New York community of comic artists exponentially improved his work, Schreiber said, winning him several national comic awards including a Xeric Award, several Harvey Awards and an Eisner Award nomination.

But it didn't change the fact that he was living – illegally and without health care – in a makeshift loft above his drawing desk and showering with two buckets and water from a teakettle.

"You take very desperate measures just to survive when you're doing your work and that's a big aspect of being a cartoonist," he said.

He has 17 inches of scars on his left arm from falling off his makeshift loft.

Sunday Runaround – Tintin, Tibet And TrafficThis is Computo the Comic Link Conqueror speaking. I come for your women. But for now I merely collate comic-related bits and pieces online. One day I will rule. Until that day, read on.

They say I am a work in progress. The fools.
