Twelve Years Experience #7 by Joel Ronson: Talking To Alan

Twelve Years Experience #7 by Joel Ronson: Talking To AlanA hit at the Kapow comic convention in London, Joel Ronson is a twelve year old young man who loves comic books. And wants to let other people in on it.

One of the most exciting things that have ever happened to me happened last night. My dad was out doing an event and I phoned him when he was done. Over the phone he reveals to me that Alan Moore is at the event! I begged my dad to put him on and before I knew it I was talking to one of my heroes Alan Moore!

He was absolutely lovely. He was incredibly nice to me and I don't think I acted like an idiot over the phone!

I told him about how I am a massive fan of his and he told me that he is going to send me the new League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen series!

So to sum up the experience of talking to one of my heroes, Alan Moore, it was the best conversation I have ever had.

Today I went to the comic store to pick up some comics/graphic novels to read on a long minibus journey tomorrow and I spotted three people at the Alan Moore section of the store, talking about how good he is.

"Should I tell them about how I talked to Alan Moore on the phone last night" I think to myself.

I hang around them for a bit, I tend not to like to talk to strangers if there is more than one of them.

Finally, the two men move along a little bit but the woman is still there looking at the Alan Moore section.
"Do you like Alan Moore?" I say with a friendly, but accidently a bit creepy, tone in my voice.

She nods awkwardly.

"This isn't going well" I think.

"I talked to him on the phone last night" I say.

And then one of the men, laughing, puts his hands on the woman's shoulders and takes her away. By then they are both laughing.

"They are both laughing at me! Have they never heard of people being friendly to each other while looking at books?" I think.

My aim at the comic store today was to get some comics that are away from the superhero genre. I was thinking that I have a lot of superhero comics and maybe I will get some stuff that is a bit different.

I ended up with:

Frankenstein: Creatures Of The Unknown (I mainly got this one because the store had a deal on which was if you buy any Flashpoint comic you get a free Flash ring but also because it looked cool) issue 1.

American Vampire: Survival Of The Fittest issue 1.

Hellboy: The Fury issue 1.

Rocketeer Adventures issue 1.

All Star Superman Volume 1.

I think I made a good selection!

Anyway, I hope you have enjoyed this issue of my column and I will be back for another rant next week!
