Comixology Bestseller List – 24th August 2018 – Action Comics Lives Up to Its Name

Welcome to the Comixology Bestseller list, your guide to see how well your favorite titles are selling digitally. Every week I'll post the ranking of every new title, plus a ranking of the best selling volumes & graphic novels. As always, I hope you find it interesting and informative.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a tie! The Top 10 score this week is week is DC five, Marvel five. DC took the top spot, Marvel took the next three spots, DC then took the next four, but Marvel forced the tie by taking the last two. DC could have possibly won if they still had Hal Jordan and the Green Corps on the roster, but Kelly Thompson surprised everyone by sneaking in with West Coast Avengers, her first Top 10 appearance. The Top 10 is becoming more unpredictable each week, with increased competition from Marvel and more writers recently making their digital Top 10 debut.

With Saga taking an extended vacation and Doomsday Clock on a two-month release schedule, this week's No. 1 is open to all the Big 2 ongoings. And it's Brian Michael Bendis's Action Comics taking the crown, his third No. 1 win since coming to DC. The Bendis Superman experiment remains a success, although with half the output. Are the higher rankings Bendis has brought thus far worth not having a Superman title every other week?

Last week I mentioned Thor and Tony Stark: Iron Man slipping slightly, but this week Marvel got great performances from three of their top titles: Avengers reached its best ranking yet at No. 2, Darth Vader remains as popular as ever landing at No. 3 and Amazing Spider-Man jumped Justice League Dark for the No. 4 spot. In other Marvel news, The Punisher received only a minor boost for its new numbering. While Fresh Start has so far been a success for Marvel, books with new #1s keeping their Legacy authors have shown little to no improvement.

The Flash climbed the rankings all year to hit No. 2 with Issue #50, a huge achievement. Now, it's sinking at a fast rate. Its rankings since: 5, 6 and this week 8, behind Injustice 2. The culprit? The new $3.99 price tag is a likely suspect, although Wonder Woman has remained consistent with the same price change.
