Give Nick Barrucci, CEO and owner of Dynamite Entertainment, a rest after this one. After getting the rights to Buffy and Angel comic books, they are following it up with another Joss Whedon-created TV-to-comics adaptation, with Firefly. As he says "Firefly is back! And we're teaming with Mark Russell and Lorenzo Re! That's right, Captain Malcolm Reynolds' iconic rallying cry: "I aim to misbehave" is BACK! Diehard show fan and Eisner Award winner Mark Russell is making his return to Dynamite, following critically acclaimed work with Red Sonja and The Lone Ranger, and elsewhere on The Flintstones, Snagglepuss, Superman: Space Age, Second Coming, and more." I have to say, Mark Russell is one of my favourite, funniest and most satirical comic book writers, right now, and Firefly remains one of my favourite American TV shows, so I'll be down for this.

Previously, Firefly comic books that expanded the universe of the 2002 space western TV series and its 2005 film Serenity continued the adventures of Captain Malcolm Reynolds and the crew of the Serenity, filling in gaps, exploring backstories, and adding new stories. At least initially, they were considered canonical extensions of the show and the film. Dark Horse Comics published sporadic miniseries and one-shots under the Serenity title that bridged the TV series and film or continued afterwards. Many were written or overseen by Joss Whedon or his collaborators. Boom Studios took over the license in 2018, initially with Joss Whedon as story consultant, and launched an ongoing series and spin-offs, often with Greg Pak as a key writer for the main line. And now? It's Dynamite's turn…
