MACC-POW, the Cheshire Comic Con is Smiling in June

Marc Jackson writes,

This year MACC-POW! the comic event I organise in my hometown of Macclesfield in Cheshire, returns for its 3rd year bigger, bolder and brighter than before. Back within the programme for the town's 10 day arts festival Barnaby, MACC-POW! takes place in the Town Hall on Saturday 23rd of June 2018.

This year's line-up sees no less than 35 creators from around the world joining us on the day, including MACC-POW! veterans lovable Lew Stringer and perky Paul Grist, alongside David Leach, Nick Brokenshire, Laura Howell, Ilya, Emmeline Pidgen, Missed Deadline magazine, Marc and Nancy Jackson, Dick Vincent, Jessica on Paper, Rick Eades, Dr Sarah, Joe Matthews, Lyndon White, Ken McFarlane, Laura Crow, Jim Boswell, Nick Prolix, James Chapman, Colin Mathieson (Accent UK) Chris Askham, Christine Pym, Noemie Pounder, Dan Whitehead, 15 year old cartoonist Harrison Smith, Sarah Spendlove, Fox Hat and Macclesfield and Sale and Stockport's comic shops The Nerds of Valhalla and WOW comix!

We are also welcoming our first two international guests in person, Barcelona based Spanish cartoonists Lorenzo Montatore and Genie Espinosa who are supported by our friends from the Lakes international comic-art festival (also in attendance) and bring their unique styles of cartooning to our already full to bursting line-up.

We also have the Observer comic prize winner from 2017 Tor Freeman who will also be in conversation on the day in our Cartoon-a-room as will U.S. Cartoonist Jess Smart Smiley who will be running a drawing workshop live from his studio in Utah! We'll also be showcasing selected classic cartoons on the day, one of our now much celebrated unique elements.

Missed Deadline editor Jessica Kemp will also be in conversation with Lew Stringer and David Leach on the day, talking about their careers and celebrating 50 years of comic events in the UK.

We will also be launching a brand-new digital comic for children on the day, more on that in the coming months!!!

This year the buzz for the event will be starting early with a number of things happening prior to the event, one in particular sees Dennis and Gnasher cartoonist Nigel Parkinson visit Macclesfield's library on June 21st, to launch the Summer reading challenge (this year themed around the Beano, finally connecting libraries and reading to comics!!)

I can't wait to bring all this and more to my hometown, a truly unique event for both comics and Macclesfield. See you in June… MACC-POW!!
