Matt Kindt Creates Jack Chick Tract for Mind MGMT Kickstarter

Earlier this month, Matt Kindt launched a Kickstarter campaign for a Mind MGMT comic book and read-along vinyl record with The Adventure Zone's Clint McElroy.

Believed to be the first-ever read-along comic book and vinyl record for adults, Kindt cited wanting to recreate childhood experiences with Planet of the Apes and Pete's Dragon. "Rather than simply having a comic that illustrates the audio, the comic book story will subvert the audio that you're hearing and the images will work completely differently when viewed while listening to the record."

In MIND MGMT, a former secret agent, the mysterious Henry Lyme, has gone rogue and is working to dismantle the organization he once worked for. There's a mysterious airline flight and a secret government agency of super spies. This story spans from the 1920's to the present day—and things get weird.

He has currently raised $42,941 against a $12,000 goal from 798 backers with 14 days to go. And he has just added the following to the Kickstarter deal — including creating a brand-new mini-comic in the style of Jack Chick:

20-page MIND MGMT mini-comic. 2-color cover, black and white insides. This is a Kickstarter exclusive. And the debut of another all-new MIND MGMT story that has never been seen before. It is a Jack Chick-style tract format mini-comic with an all-new story featuring the recruitment story of one of MIND MGMT's youngest agents – the Animal Kid. It ties in to the comic book/record but also stands on its own.

For an extra $10 — the MIND MGMT mini comic will feature an original miniature water-color painting (approximately 1"x1") of a MIND MGMT animal in a nature scene. This will be a separate piece, tucked in secretly into your package of goodies. It will be painted by the inspiration for the Animal Kid character – Ella Kindt (my daughter.) Signed.

A set of all-new original prints featuring the art of 4 artists:

Jeff Lemire (painted by Jeff)

David Rubin (painted by Matt Kindt0

Jim Rugg (painted by Matt Kindt)

And a third surprise artist that will be announced at the end of the Kickstarter.

You will receive all 4 of these prints. In addition – the back of the prints will feature the original un-edited script for the audio portion of the record. The script includes deleted scenes and notes.

Original art for the record sleeve – 2 pages of black and white inked art on heavy water color paper. This was the art feature in the process inking video during the Kickstarter. Each page approximately 10×14". In addition – I will include the hand-assembled mock-up of the record sleeve and the penciled sketchbook page preliminary art. The first person to contact me and increase their pledge (by $500) will receive the art.

This is the "Color Blind" MIND MGMT 24 page comic that saw a limited-to-500 print-run release in the spring. Available for the first time digitally.

A set of 3 MIND MGMT stickers and a high-quality metal cloisonné pin.

Limited to 3. These are the test records that the record company will send me to test and make sure the sound and quality is correct. Basically, they're the printer-proofs of the record. The first three people to contact me and increase their pledge (by $300) will receive a test-pressing.

The new MIND MGMT comic book is a full color, 24 page comic with a gatefold in the back that will hold the record in place. The MIND MGMT 7" 33 1/3 RPM record will be pressed by United Record Pressing, the company which printed the Beatles' first 7".
