Midnight X-Men Will Be A Story Of Failure, Told Out Of Sequence, by Jonathan Hickman and Matteo Della Fonte

Today is the FOC date for Midnight Universe titles, the last day retailers have to set their Marvel Universe orders. And Bleeding Cool is going to take the day, looking at the titles coming our way. Such as Midnight X-Men. So here's a Midnight tag for whatever else I write about Midnight on Bleeding Cool today. Jonathan Hickman jumping back onto the X-Men characters is an attempt to change what readers think of when they consider a Jonathan Hickman X-Men comic book, as it will be nothing like his House Of X comic books. Aside from the text pages, of course. It's an epic, operatic, vampire comic, and includes stuff he's been playing around with in the back of his head for a really long time.

Midnight X-Men will not be an origin in the same sense as the other two Midnight titles, and Jonathan Hickman sees that as a main distinction; this is an established world for these empires, mutant vampires. The idea is that things have been going wrong for the last decade and we as readers will be playing catch-up, which is the way that most X-Men readers came to the comic books in the first place. So it will be told in a non-linear fashion, and will begin with flashbacks. So we will see an earlier version of the X-Men far closer to the classic look, the original five X-Men, Kitty Pryde, Colossus and more… and something goes very badly wrong for them all, compared to Giant Size X-Men and the Phoenix Saga. They come back (well, some of them come back) changed and kicks off Midnight X-Men. The comic book will be the story of that failure…
