Previously, Anna Kendrick, Imogen Poots and Felicity Jones were linked to a key role in the Captain America sequel, The Winter Soldier, and it was surmised that they were up for the role of Sharon Carter.
Tonight, Deadline are naming Poots plus Emilia Clarke, Jessica Brown Findlay, Teresa Palmer and Alison Brie as a short list of candidates set to test for the film.
That's the dragon-y lass from Game of Thrones, one of the Downtown youngers, Number 6 from I Am Number 4 and Annie Edison from Community.
Their reports says:
Not sure the character, but evidently it's a love interest for Steve Rogers.
Everybody else in Hollywood is pretty clear that the role is Sharon Carter. Which either means Kendrick and Jones are out of the running, weren't in it to begin with, or won't test.
Overall, though, it means that the role still needs filling.
Guaranteed to return, however, is Scarlett Johansson as Natalia Romanov, the Black Widow. Deadline started the ball rolling with:
I'm also hearing that Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow will be in the mix on this film.
And again, everybody who could confirm, did. Variety's Jeff Sneider even called her appearance CONFIRMED, all in block caps, as is his wont.
It's likely a small role for Johansson, but that's not necessarily so. It's possible she's a major player.
The film is still some ways off of production, so we might go some time before hearing who has won the role of Sharon. Any favourites in that bunch, however? I'd be disappointed if they passed over Kendrick, personally. Maybe she had something else to do.
UPDATE: I can't believe I got my Sharons and Peggys in a twist, but it probably has something to do with the fact that I spent 24 out of the least 29 hours very, very high up in the sky.
