• Documentary filmmaker Errol Morris is set to make his narrative directorial debut on a thriller called Holland, Michigan, and he's set Naomi Watts to star in it. Described as "Fargo-esque", Watts will play a woman who suspects her husband is cheating on her and begins her own affair, but the truth turns out to be that her husband's a serial killer. Well that escalated quickly! First time screenwriter Andrew Sodroski wrote it. [THR]

• The ever-prolific David Gordon Green is preparing his next film, and has set Holly Hunter, Chris Messina and Harmony Korine to star opposite Al Pacino in Manglehorn, about "an eccentric man coming to terms with a past crime that cost him the love of his life." [THR]

• With filming already several weeks in, a pivotal role in YA adaptation The Fault in Our Stars has finally been cast. Director Josh Boone took to Twitter to announce Willem Dafoe will play reclusive author Peter Van Houten in the film starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort. [Twitter]

• Here's an odd coupling. Jennifer Lopez has agreed to star in a film for horror master Jason Blum – he of such microbudget hits as Paranormal Activity and The Purge. The film is called The Boy Next Door and sounds like a Fatal Attraction-type scenario wherein her single mother character gets involved with a much younger guy, only to find herself terrorized when she tries to end it. Apparently this guy's never heard of [Variety]

Homeland star Damien Lewis is attached to star in sci-fi space thriller Alone. Lewis will play the only astronaut on a space station, who ultimately has to save the planet all by himself. Makes Sandra Bullock in Gravity look downright lazy, doesn't it? Shooting will take place in London. [Screen Daily]

• An American in Paris drama My Old Lady has added Kristin Scott Thomas to the cast that already includes Kevin Kline, Maggie Smith and Dominique Pinon. Kline plays a New Yorker waiting for Smith's character to die in order to take possession of her Parisian apartment. Scott plays her daughter. [Deadline]

• Thriller Momentum has cast a quartet of actors: Olga Kurylenko, Vincent Cassel, Morgan Freeman and Shea Whigham. Stephen Campanelli, Clint Eastwood's longtime camera operator, will make his directorial debut. Kurylenko will play a thief who has both the police and Cassel's rival gang after her. [Variety]

Northmen – A Viking Saga, about, you guessed it, Vikings, begins filming for 8 weeks in South Africa next week and thus, has rounded out its cast. True Blood's Ryan Kwanten, Tom Hopper, Charlie Murphy and Ed Skrein join previously cast Ken Duken, Anatole Taubman and James Norton. [Screen Daily]

• While he's busy fielding Oscar talk in Toronto for his roles in The Fifth Estate and Rush, Daniel Bruhl already has sights on his next film, Michael Winterbottom's take on the Amanda Knox murder trial, called The Face of an Angel. Bruhl would play a journalist or writer in the film that might not even cast someone to play Knox herself. [Collider]

Fast & Furious 7 continues casting, with Nathalie Emanuel the latest to join Vin Diesel and Paul Walker's long-running street-racing franchise. She'll play one of Dom Terretto's (Diesel) crew and presumably help them face off against Jason Statham's villain. [Deadline]
