Josh Hylton writes for Bleeding Cool:
I have a friend who doesn't like Martin Scorsese. Every time he is brought up, he makes a snide remark about the man. My friend, as you can probably guess, is crazy. Scorsese is one of the most accomplished directors of all time. Goodfellas, Casino, and Raging Bull are just a few of his bona fide classics. Nevertheless, his next project, Hugo Cabret, doesn't seem so appealing despite a great cast that includes Jude Law, Emily Mortimer, Ben Kingsley, Johnny Depp, Chloe Moretz and Asa Butterfield.
And it's the latter three actors that interest in regards to this post. Comingsoon have posted the first shot of Johnny Depp on set of Scorsese's new movie. It comes from a scan of French newspaper "Le Parisien," so don't expect a vibrantly colored action shot. There's not much going on in the scene, if they're even in the midst of shooting. For all we know, Moretz and Butterfield are talking about lunch while Depp relaxes with fingerpainting.
Anyway, Hugo Cabret is releasing in 3D in November, so if you aren't bored to tears by that screenshot, you can wait until then to see it.
