The Morning After Sharktopus Runaround

Half the industry was watching Sharktopus on SyFy last night, it seems, and according to twitter it was somewhere in between that bad and so-bad-it's-good area. That was probably the point, but it makes me wonder why no one's doing anything with the Pre-Hero Marvel Monsters on TV yet. Somebody get on that, please.

Meanwhile, Rich is having a good time in Italy, I'm wrapping up some lettering, and since the sun never sets on Bleeding Cool, here are some links:

THE WALKING DEAD Fan Titles

As I was admiring Struzan's work of art, I wondered what the opening titles to this terrifying new television show might look like… so I animated a spec title sequence using artwork ripped from the pages of the comic, originally illustrated by Charlie Adlard and Tony Moore.

Exclusive: Script for The Flash and GL2 Treatment in Progress

we spend a lot more time talking about 'Se7en' or 'The Silence of the Lambs' as we construct that part of Barry's world, then I thought when we got into it. It helps balance a guy in a red suit who runs really fast."

Why Media Companies Shouldn't Accept Apple's Subscription Plans (by @baekdal) #publishing

Marvel fans were outraged. How could they create an app for the iPad, and not include access for the already-subscribing customers? The answer, of course, is that Apple app store didn't support subscriptions. So, is Apple's new subscription based model going to solve this? No! They are making it worse.

A Personal Project’s New Art & A Press Release « Dave Dorman

Those of you who heard my recent interview on the Dennis Miller Radio Show may have heard a brief mention of my “52 Project.” Life has thrown me some curve balls over the past few years, but this project has been weighing heavily on me, because I really wanted to see it through. As the son of USAF Lieutenant Colonel Jack Dorman, I consider it an honor and a privilege to give back to my military family. To that end, I am painting 52 original pieces of military art, to be published in a book. (For those of you who wonder if I can actually paint military art, I would direct you to all of the G.I. Joe paintings I’ve done through the years.) Here are a couple of pieces I’ve done for 52, just to give you a feel for it.

Can you name the Avengers Members?

I lose track when it gets into the 70's.

Unfortunately I Have Seen This Happen

FREAKANGELS has been a successful project, doing what lots of people told me (and Avatar!) couldn’t or shouldn’t be done — paying creators to make a weekly webcomic and then making the money back on the (re)print collected editions. It must be doing okay, because every six months I hear from the Avatar compound that William’s rubbing money on his chest and giggling as he drinks gin from an athletic Brazilian girl doing a handstand.

Downtown Santa Monica Navigates the Recession

Hi De Ho Comics owner, Saleen Aaron, found that his business has “definitely been slower this year” but tourists have helped replace some of his lost sales. His regular customers are comic enthusiasts and when they become the mainstay of his business he knows the economy is slowing. He opened a second store in Laguna Beach this summer. In his view a down economy is a good time to expand because it’s “easier to find specialized employees who are focused on our type of product.” He thinks his business will continue to do well over the next two years because Hollywood will be releasing a number of films that will cause an “upswing in comic reading.”

I Hope He Does a Golden Age Homage Also

A rough for an alternate JLA cover I started.
