Why Is Everyone Ignoring Steve Bissette's Tales Of The Uncanny?

That Steve Bissette is creating a sequel project to Image's 1963 series should be news.

That it's a result of the failure to reprint the 1963 series and complete it, after a year long process that saw Alan Moore first request that his name not be on it (necessitating the removal of the Affable Al sections) but then pull the project altogether, should also be news.

But not a peep from Eisner nominated Comics Alliance. Nothing from Eisner winners CBR or Newsarama, the main site or their blogs. Not a mention from The Beat who attended MoCCA where the project was launched. Or Tom Spurgeon, Dirk Deppey or And still nothing from IGN Comics, MTV, Techland, GeekChic or a plethora of people covering comics.

I'm at a loss.

Steve Bissette is not only one of the more important comic book creators of the last three decades, both drawing the paridigm shifting Anatomy Lesson in Swamp Thing, and much of the subsequent run, launching Taboo, the graphic anthology series that kicked off From Hell and Lost Girls, but self publishing Tyrant.

And right when he might need a bit of publicity, in the midst of actually generating news worthy content, he gets shunned.

Oh those sites were all over him when he was delving to the files that pertained to the Ratings Scandal of the nineteen eighties a few weeks ago. But when he's actually creating new comics, and a sequel to a high profile series at that, nothing.

Certain sites not running the story, I can understand. Some not having the space, time and resources, it happens. But none of you? Just Bleeding Cool? Are my news sensibilities that warped here or is something wrong?

Here's a new Steve Bissette image of Hypernaut from the series…

Why Is Everyone Ignoring Steve Bissette's Tales Of The Uncanny?

To recap. After an aborted attempt by Steve Bissette and Rick Veitch to relaunch 1963 at Dynamite, the 1963 partners have split the charcters from that book between them. Steve Bissette, with creators for the CCS where he teaches, are creating a 200 page first volume of Tales Of The Uncanny, featuring N-Man, Hypernaut, The Fury, Sky Solo and new characters, to be published by Nat Gertler's About Comics at the end of the year. Steve's intent is to develop these characters to such an extent that, when he dies, they can form an estate which will benefit both his children and the CCS.

Copies of the 16 page preview that sold out of available copies at MoCCA can be found here.
