If you remember, Bleeding Cool warned you about the aftermarket importance of Power Rangers: Shattered Grid.
Bleeding Cool mentioned that folk might want to pick up the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic book ever since Shattered Grid was announced and our spies started hearing something notable was coming.
It's all become a bit of an out-of-control wildfire.
First, the trailer, voiced by the Green Ranger, did over one million views in less than 24 hours. Then we heard sales on the series doubled (they actually almost quadrupled) as many fans came back to the stores just for this comic — BOOM! Studios has been repeating how one store sold 800 copies of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25 in 15 minutes.
The series has been charting as a top reordered series by retailers in a way that only Amazing Spider-Man, Batman and Thanks have performed for them this year. Fans are coming for the single issues and the collections, the latter seeing a steady uptick in sales.
Now we're seeing a lot of aftermarket heat on the entire event.
If you had snapped up a full set of the main covers from your local comic shop the first day of on-sale, it could have been worth $120.
This has generated enough heat that fans willing to settle for second prints have to pay as much as $8 and even eBay itself has gotten in on the action, offering a second print exclusive eBay cover for $9 with over 700 copies sold direct to fans (that's $6,300+ of Power Rangers).
But the excitement isn't limited to issue #25.
Of course, BOOM! giving retailers the go-ahead to sell #26 at midnight the day before, alongside 500,000 copies of Action Comics #1000 probably didn't hurt.
But the Shattered Grid event keeps hitting more waves of Power Rangers fans late to the party, going into Direct Market shops and buying more. So even with Final Order Cut-Off as a tool for retailers to catch up, it's sent Go Go Power Rangers #9 into the aftermarket for $7.50 to $6 as it reveals big secrets for the identity of the Ranger Slayer.
And Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Annual #1 is basically the "Thanos Wins" of Power Rangers comics, as we see the in-continuity destruction of teams like SPD, RPM, Zeo, Space and more… along with a few deaths too.
Unlike lots of other publishers their size, BOOM! put a new, original story in their FCBD issue, making the story count in-continuity. And they really delivered, but you already knew this because we spoiled the big reveal of the death of Rita Repulsa in that issue.
So this is when we remind you MMPR #27 hits shops this Wednesday.
