The last copy of the comic book Wretches by James E. Roche, Salomon Farias and Chunlin Zhao published by Scout Comics to sell was in February, issue 3 going for five bucks. Then nothing until today, when twenty-five copies were bought, leaving none at cover price. A copy of issue 1 just sold for $12 and an NYCC variant for $20. These look likely to rise.
That's because Scout Comics & Entertainment Inc just announced that Wretches is in development as a one-hour sci-fi adventure series by screenwriter Bianca Ursillo, with Andy Cohen of Grade A Entertainment and Scout Comics attached to executive produce. Now, remember this is just a development deal. There is no major studio attached. No major name attached. This isn't like Ball & Chain, also just announced, with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt. But it is official, and sometimes that's enough. And it is further indication that lockdown and shutdown is leading to lots of agents, lawyers, studio heads and IP owners sitting around trying to come up with something to do now that their cocaine dealers have been busted and can't do curbside anymore.
Alone on the tough streets of an alien city, far from the lifeless planet they once called home, siblings Shea and Sean spent their youth struggling to survive. Still suffering emotionally from the loss of everything they'd ever known and loved, Shea and Sean have nothing else in the universe but each other. Forever outrunning the horrors of their past, they survive the only way they know how- by hunting and killing sentient robots for profit! Now, when the rough path that they had no chance to follow finally catches up to them, will they be able to keep each other safe or will they lose the only important thing they have left, each other?
Bianca Ursillo holds an MFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU's Tisch School of Arts, where she received a number of departmental awards. She has worked on such shows as Audience Network's FULL CIRCLE, AMC's DISPATCHES FROM ELSEWHERE, and, currently, Neflix's upcoming ARCHIVE 81.
And that's enough to boost Wretches sales online as well… Scout is selling copies for just five bucks. For now.
