Monster Hunter Now Removes Traveling Restrictions For Trains

Monster Hunter Now has removed a long-standing restriction for playing at high speeds, as trains are now acceptable to play the game on.

Article Summary

  • Monster Hunter Now now allows hunting and gathering during high-speed train travel after a long-standing play restriction.
  • Train passengers can tap “I am not a driver” to unlock Monster Hunter Now gameplay while commuting at rail speeds.
  • Walking distance still will not count on trains, so Monster Hunter Now features like driftsmelting will not progress.
  • If location or network checks fail, Monster Hunter Now will keep standard high-speed travel restrictions in place.

In a move that should have been done ages ago, Scopely has removed a long-standing restriction for Monster Hunter Now players. For its entire run, as well as in other mobile games, there has been a restriction in place to prevent players from playing the game while traveling at speeds higher than walking. Doesn't matter if it's by bike, bus, car, etc. The move was done to prevent accidents while being distracted. The downside is that if you're in a mode of transportation where you're not the one driving, it kills any chance of you playing the game on your own until you come to a stop.

That's changed as of today, as the team has removed the restriction for players who are commuting by train. A move we thought they would have made ages ago, since the developers are in Japan, one of the heaviest train-influenced countries in the world. You won't get walking counted on your profile, but if you're quick, you can do a lot with the game at high speeds! We have more details from their gameplay explanation page below.

Conquer Monster Hunter Now At The Speed of Rail

Previously, for safety reasons, certain gameplay features such as hunting and gathering were restricted while traveling at high speed (e.g., on a train). After this update, a confirmation screen will now appear during high-speed travel, but only when traveling by train. Once you confirm on this screen that you are not the driver, the restrictions on gameplay, such as hunting and gathering, will be lifted.

Only tap "I am not a driver" if you are, in fact, not the driver. If you are driving or operating the train, please do not play the game under any circumstances. While playing, stay aware of your surroundings and only play in a safe location. Once you've confirmed that you are not the driver, restrictions on gameplay such as hunting and gathering will be lifted. However, the distance covered during high-speed travel will not count as walking distance. As a result, features that progress based on walking distance, such as driftsmelting, will not progress during this time.

If your location or network connection is unstable, or if the app cannot confirm that you are traveling by train, the confirmation screen may not appear, and the standard restrictions for high-speed travel will apply instead. If the confirmation screen is not displaying correctly, please check your location settings and network connection.
