Sony Exec Says He Doesn't Think '4K' Is A Misleading Term For Upscaled 4K Games On The PlayStation Pro

A lot has been made of the PlayStation Pro since its reveal a little over a week ago, with there being a string of caveats coming out about the console since it was announced. One of the more controversial points is that a lot of the time, games won't actually be in a native 4K, rather upscaled to the format.

Well, Sony's Andrew House spoke to Digital Spy in an interview where he addressed this issue straight on. Essentially, he says he doesn't think it is misleading.

He confirmed that most games would indeed be upscalled:

I would say the majority [of games] will be upscaled – at least based on the game portfolio I have seen to date.

When asked if he thinks that is deceptive, he said:

No, I don't think so. I think that whatever the term is, it's a question of whether people see a demonstrable difference in the game experience or not, rather than the term we use to apply to it. I think that's what people are looking for and they'll make their judgement as to whether that's working for them or not.

Where you come down on this one will depend on your prefernece. In reality, many probably wouldn't know the difference one way or the other. On the other hand, it doesn't look good to say Sony's 4K console won't play in native 4K. We will have to see if this kind of thing has any impact on the enthusiasm for the console.
