Entertainment Weekly reports that A Monster Calls, J.A. Bayona's next film, will open in limited release on December 23rd with a wider release to follow on January 6th.
Based on the award winning children's fantasy novel, newcomer Lewis MacDougall plays a boy dealing with hardships at home and at school by escaping into fantasy and adventuring with the Ent-like monster he calls to deal with his pain. The film also features Felicity Jones, Sigourney Weaver and Liam Neeson.
The film was originally set for release on October 21st, but it seems there are at least a few awards hopes connected to the later release date.
