Abigail Spencer Off To Kansas To Join Sam Raimi's Oz

Abigail Spencer Off To Kansas To Join Sam Raimi's OzThe filming of Sam Raimi's prequel to the Wizard of Oz, Oz: The Great and Powerful, is about to get underway this month in Michigan. There is still time, just, for casting.

Abigail Spencer (Madmen) has just been hired, says Hollywood Reporter, to play

a young woman who is a willing subject of Oz's magic tricks which the erstwhile magician is performing in Kansas.

Abigail is very shortly to be seen as Alice in Cowboys and Aliens, to be premiered at Empire Magazine's Big Screen event in August. She will join James Franco, Oz, and the three black and white witches, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz and Mila Kunis, as reported here at Bleeding Cool.

Sam Raimi, incidentally, has no fewer than 25 projects listed as being in production on ProIMDb. No doubt he'll be glad then to get Oz done and dusted  ahead of its release in May 2013. But it might not be all plain sailing. Hollywood.com has suggested that Warmer Bros. is so protective of its Wizard of Oz brand that it will legally challenge any potential usurper.
