While the second season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. aired, rumors began to circulate about a spinoff centering on Agent Bobbi Morse, played by Adrianne Palicki, and her ex-husband Lance Hunter (Nick Blood). In May, the plan appeared to be scrapped, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, Palicki and Blood will star in a pilot called Marvel's Most Wanted featuring the pair as Morse and Hunter, but it is described as "a new take focusing on the same duo and their continuing adventures."
Perhaps more surprising, the new premise is from the same trio behind the Chase/Hunter spinoff from last spring — executive producers Jeffrey Bell and Jeph Loeb, and writer Paul Zbyszewski.
It is clear that Palicki and Blood are fun to watch, as the duo definitely helped S.H.I.E.L.D. to become quite enjoyable in its second season, but it struck me as a strange notion to pull them from the show so quickly for their own series. Fans of Marvel's Agent Carter were also worried the potential spinoff might steal away its budget, leading to that series being cancelled.
As Most Wanted is currently only a pilot order, it is unclear how it will effect ABC's Marvel mothership (or continuing seasons of Agent Carter) or if the premise will be introduced during the third season of S.H.I.E.L.D. One thing is certain: ABC and Marvel want to be in business with Palicki and Blood… which isn't a bad thing.
