It was apparently rather hard to get the Arrested Development cast back together for the upcoming fourth series, and even so we'll barely be seeing them all in the same place at the same time. The tricky scheduling is among the reasons that this run of thirteen episodes is expected to be something of a one off.
The Wall Street Journal culled some quotes from a Netflix conference call today wherein the company's CEO Reed Hastings admitted that the new series is a "fantastic one-off" and "non-repeatable." Did stock drop? I wouldn't be surprised.

It's only the first third of a three part story; the second two parts will be in the movie. So this is the first act, and the movie is act two and three. They're all just asking questions that the movie itself will answer
And if the movie never happens? Lord, I hope this doesn't all go wrong. For all of the planned continuation, I do hope the Netflix episodes reach some sort of satisfying conclusion.
And I hope for Netflix's sake that they can keep finding these cherished, discontinued TV series to revive.
Thanks to The Verge for the quotes from behind the WSJ paywall.
