Becky Directors on Bringing the Scary Mofo Out of Kevin James

This episode Jason talks to Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott, the directors of Becky (debuting June 5), a new revenge thriller about a teen girl, Lulu Wilson, who faces off against a gang of neo-Nazis led by an unusually villainous Kevin James. You guys have called it an "ultra-violent Home Alone." Say the producers:

Spunky and rebellious, Becky (Lulu Wilson) is brought to a weekend getaway at a lake house by her father Jeff (Joel McHale) in an effort to try to reconnect. The trip immediately takes a turn for the worse when a group of convicts on the run, led by the merciless Dominick (Kevin James), suddenly invade the lake house.

The directors talk about James' efforts to create a truly menacing character– Dominick in the film, barrel-chested and heavily bearded, speaks softly and with a constant dangerous edge. He's up against the titular Becky, played by Picard's Lulu Wilson, who takes out the sort of gory revenge even 80s and 90s revenge flicks tended to shy away from. The directors talk about the conversations producers had with them about whether they could pull that off. Join us!

Becky is a selection at this year's Tribeca Film Festival and will be released in theaters, drive-ins, on-demand, and digital on June 5, 2020.
