Various Tracking Boards have today been awash with stories of a potential Danger Girl movie, derived from J. Scott Campbell and Andy Hartnell's comic book series about three lady spies in a sort-of gender-inverted Bond meets Charlie's Angels mold.
As far as I can gather, the project is currently being shopped around studios by producer JC Spink. The talent bait he has on the hook are three actresses: Milla Jovavich, Kate Beckinsale and Sofia Vergara.
UPDATED: The Playlist tweeted us to say WME reps for the actresses say they aren't attached. It's a mystery, then, why every anonymous poster in Tracking Board land thought they were. Can we lay the blame at the feet of JC Spink? Or did a rumour just get out control. Anyway, I still won't be surprised to see any or all of them in the film.
We don't know yet if there's a script, or even a scriptwriter. Best guess, there isn't a director – but I'd say Paul WS Anderson and Len Wiseman are probably in with a shout, wouldn't you? Maybe Sofia Vergara goes to bed with a hack too, but I don't know – I've been sworn off the Perez for a while.*
Jovovich placed at 21 and Vergara at 47 on the Maxim Hot 100 list for 2010, whereas Beckinsale didn't appear. Still, I'm sure she's still trying to deal with her position on several lists for several other magazines and several other years. Those mental images of Maxim readers "enjoying your pictorials" can't go away very easily, I'm sure.
In the comic, the Danger Girls' superior is a Sean Connery-looking fellow named Deuce. Famously, Terry Gilliam recruited Connery for a role in Time Bandits after having referred to "Sean Connery or an actor of similar but cheaper stature" in the screenplay.
I can't see that lightning striking twice.
Now… is this the time and place for me start talking about why I like the Charlie's Angels movies? Maybe in the forum…
*Not really. Perez 4eva. LMFCO.
