Reputedly designed to be a film of great ambition and complexity, Cloud Atlas has been adapted from the… well, greatly ambitious and complex novel by David Mitchell.
Some segments of the film have been directed by Tom Tykwer, probably best known for Run Lola Run, while others come courtesy of Andy and Lana Wachowski, most definitely best known for The Matrix.
There doesn't seem to be a definitive list of who is handling which segment, so I can't categorically say whether the following preview still and concept images "belong" to Tykwer or the Wachowskis, but let's not get our knickers in a twist over all that Cahiers du Cinema stuff.
Here's Bae Doona, Korean film star of such greats as Barking Dogs Never Bite and Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance. She's somewhat robbed of context here, but it's still nice to see her.
And now some concept art, apparently. Han Cinema haven't labelled it, or cited their source…
And if an illustration of a ship just isn't good enough for you, here's some footage from the shoot – and, as my Dad would say, don't say I don't ever do anything for you.
Production of the film wrapped last week, and here's an image released from the set to mark the occasion.
There's a future plane and two Papa Song chairs in there, all from the futuristic Korea segment; two statues from Chatham Island, where the first storyline takes place; a VW from the 70s-set nuclear power plant conspiracy chapter; Frobisher's piano; and probably some other little things I couldn't place or even see. Anything superb that I missed?
