UPDATE: Deadline now reports Scarlet is in development at Cinemax, already in the comic book adaptation business with Outcast.

ORIGINAL STORY: Deadline reports HBO may be looking to adapt the Brian Michael Bendis/Alex Maleev comic book Scarlet into a television show. Their source: Bendis himself.

While speaking at the ATX Television Festival, the writer said development is "at the earliest stage" and "the team around it… will be announce as soon as all are on the same page."

The book, published by Marvel's Icon imprint, follows Scarlet Rue, a young woman from Portland who ends up starting a new American revolution. Eight issues of the series have been published between 2010 and today, with the most recent issue appearing last month.

HBO has yet to comment, but it is easy to see them getting into the Bendis business. He is a dependable source of television ready ideas, with his Alias and Powers comic books giving rise to Netflix's Jessica Jones and Sony's Powers series, now in its second season with Shartlo Copley and Susan Heyward starring.
