It Was Always the Plan to Bring Back Palpatine for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

The world finally got a chance to see the trailer for Episode IX and we got a teaser trailer and a title. Everything was more or less going as we expected until the very end when we got a laugh that made everyone stand up and pay attention. It was Ian McDiarmid returning as Palpatine which threw everyone for a loop. We have to wonder if that was something they've been planning for a long time and according to an interview with Kathleen Kennedy with Yahoo and she revealed it's been planned for a long time.

"This has been in the blueprint for a long time, yeah. We had not landed on exactly how we might do that, but yes, it was always [to be in Episode IX]".
