According to Star Trek Beyond actor John Cho, a brief scene featuring Sulu kissing his husband was cut from the feature.
Cho told Vulture the scene was set in the 23rd century equivalent of an airport with his family awaiting his return. "It was a welcome-home kiss. I'm actually proud of that scene, because it was pretty tough," he said. Cho had just met the young actress playing his daughter moments before the scene was ready to shoot. Screenwriter Doug Jung was called upon to play Sulu's husband. "I just wanted that to look convincingly intimate. We're two straight guys and had to get to a very loving, intimate place. It was hard to do on the fly. We had to open up. It came off well, in my view."
It is unclear if the scene will ever surface, but it is always possible for it to be included in the eventual home video release.
Star Trek Beyond opens today.
