Mad Max: Fury Road has once again been witnessed. According to The Los Angeles Times, the film has been named one of the Best Films of 2015 by the American Film Institute.
While the film certainly motivated internet culture — or at least certain Tumblr feeds — its relevance come awards time was never really considered. Now, as the year draws to a close, it's already earned "Best of" accolades from several critics' groups and the National Board of Review. It also received a number of Golden Globe nominations in key categories.
The complete AFI film list also included The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, Carol, Inside Out, The Martian, Room, Spotlight, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Straight Outta Compton. The group also announced its best of television list, which recognized The Americans, Better Call Saul, Black-ish, Empire, Fargo, Game of Thrones, Homeland, Master of None, Mr. Robot and UnREAL.
