I'm not sure I was left entirely satisfied with the treatment of the female characters in 2011's Thor.
In some ways Natalie Portman's Jane Foster was as important a protagonist as Chris Hemsworth's Thor but there was something a little mechanical about the way in which her character was written.
I never really bought how quickly she fell in love with Thor either, it never quite sat right. She went all gooey eyed because he was really big. That was pretty much it, right?
Unfortunately that sort of relationship does seem to be becoming a comic book movie staple it seems, with Man of Steel recently fitting into the same mold. Hopefully they'll be able to flesh out the relationship between Jane and Thor a little more in the sequel and maybe even give her some substantive and interesting things to do.
I've seen suggestions that Jamie Alexander may have a little more to do in the Thor sequel too, and I'm also rather glad to see Rene Russo back, who had very little to play with in the first film. This time round though she's at least got one scene in which she has short sword to play with.
