I'm a firm believer that history is going to be very kind to Judd Apatow. When benefit of 20/20 hindsight kicks in, I think he's going to be widely lauded as one of the finest filmmakers of this time.
Okay, Funny People wobbled in places but it was certainly ambitious, and Knocked Up captures something so vivid and lifelike that I don't think I'll ever get tired of watching it. And The 40 Year Old Virgin probably remains the funniest of his films to date.
Perhaps 40 is his lucky number. He's returned to it again for This Is 40, his next picture. Or maybe his blessings will be Debbie and Pete, Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd's characters from Knocked Up who take centre stage in this film.
Rich will be 40 later this year. I'll be 40 early next year. This Is 40 will be released in the middle, hitting US screens on 21st December. In Britain, we'll be waiting until February 14th next year. Swizz!
